Call for Abstracts

The Brigham Young University College of Nursing invites abstract submissions to be considered for podium, poster or lightning round presentations at the College of Nursing Scholarship and Professionalism Symposium to be held on Monday, November 4, 2024. Abstracts will be considered on the following topics: nursing practice and professionalism issues, nursing research, educational strategies, clinical practice innovations, ethical issues, or practical nursing issues.

Theme: Healing in the Savior’s Way
Professionalism Topics: Interview Techniques, Career Strategies, Shift Transitioning, NCLEX Prep, Crucial Conversations
Submission Deadline: Abstracts must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, September 27th, 2024.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
The Scholarship and Professionalism Symposium Council will review and select abstracts for podium, lightning, and poster presentations. If your abstract is accepted for presentation, you will be notified via email by October 11, 2024. Guidelines for presentations will be provided with the acceptance email. If the abstract has more than one author, the contact person should share the information with the other author(s). The time allotted for presentations depends on the number of abstracts accepted. Details about the presentation format will be communicated in the acceptance email. All applicants should be flexible with their requests given time and space are limited.

Project Abstracts

Abstracts should be structured with headings, single-spaced with 1” margins, and limited to 400 words. Where applicable, address how the abstract reflects the symposium theme, "Healing in the Savior's Way." Students should also send a copy to their professor

Title: (1 line)
Author(s): List the authors' names.
Background: Briefly introduce the context or existing knowledge related to your research topic.
Purpose Statement: Clearly state the purpose of your study.
Hypotheses: Specify the questions the study seeks to answer.
Methods:

  • Setting: Describe where the study took place. 
  • Sample: Detail the characteristics and size of the study population. 
  • Design: Specify the research design (e.g., quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods). 
  • Instruments: Identify the tools and instruments used (e.g., survey instruments). 
  • Procedures: Explain the steps taken to conduct the study. 
  • Statistical Methods of Data Analysis: List the statistical tests used to analyze the data. 

Results: Present the data (numbers, concepts, themes) without interpretation. The explanation of the data belongs in the conclusion.
Implications for Nursing: Describe how the findings may influence nursing practice, education, or policy.
Conclusion: Summarize the key findings and their significance.
Next Steps: Suggest future research directions or actions based on the study's outcomes.
