Abstract Submissions

Call for Abstracts

Abstract submissions are invited for podium, poster, or lightning round presentations at the upcoming BYU College of Nursing Scholarship and Professionalism Symposium, funded through the Shauna H. Smith Endowed Chair. The symposium will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025.

Symposium Theme:
Bearers of Light: Called to Heal “Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world.” — 3 Nephi 18:24

Abstracts will be considered on the following topics:
- Nursing Practice and Professionalism Issues
- Nursing Research
- Educational Strategies

Submission Deadline:
All abstracts must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025.

Abstract Submission Instructions:
The Symposium Council invites abstracts in the following formats:
- Podium Presentation
- Poster Presentation
- Lightning Round Presentation

Notification:
Acceptance decisions will be communicated by October 4, 2025. (The contact author will be notified and is responsible for sharing information with any co-authors.)

Presentation Guidelines:
- Specific presentation instructions will be provided in the acceptance email.
- Presentation type and scheduling will be determined based on the number and type of accepted abstracts.
- Flexibility regarding presentation format and timing is requested due to space and time limitations.

Project Abstracts

Abstracts should be structured with headings, single-spaced with 1” margins, and limited to 400 words. Where applicable, address how the abstract reflects the symposium theme, "Healing in the Savior's Way." Students should also send a copy to their professor

Title: (1 line)
Author(s): List the authors' names.
Background: Briefly introduce the context or existing knowledge related to your research topic.
Purpose Statement: Clearly state the purpose of your study.
Hypotheses: Specify the questions the study seeks to answer.
Methods:

  • Setting: Describe where the study took place. 
  • Sample: Detail the characteristics and size of the study population. 
  • Design: Specify the research design (e.g., quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods). 
  • Instruments: Identify the tools and instruments used (e.g., survey instruments). 
  • Procedures: Explain the steps taken to conduct the study. 
  • Statistical Methods of Data Analysis: List the statistical tests used to analyze the data. 

Results: Present the data (numbers, concepts, themes) without interpretation. The explanation of the data belongs in the conclusion.
Implications for Nursing: Describe how the findings may influence nursing practice, education, or policy.
Conclusion: Summarize the key findings and their significance.
Next Steps: Suggest future research directions or actions based on the study's outcomes.

Results: Present the outcomes of the project, including real data (numbers, concepts, themes). Provide just the facts, as the explanation belongs in the conclusions.
Implications for Nursing: Describe the potential impact on nurses or the nursing field.
Conclusion: Summarize the lessons learned from the project and outline the next steps.
