BYU College of Nursing Symposium: Dress and Behavior Code

Welcome to the BYU College of Nursing Symposium. To ensure a professional and respectful environment, we ask that all students adhere to the following dress and behavior guidelines:

Dress Code

  • Business Professional Attire:


    • Men:

      • Suit or dress slacks with a collared shirt and tie.
      • Dress shoes.
      • Blazers are recommended but optional.
    • Women:

      • Business suit (pants or skirt) or professional dress.
      • Blouse or professional top.
      • Closed-toe dress shoes.
    • General Guidelines:

      • Clothing should be clean, pressed, and fit appropriately.
      • Avoid overly casual clothing such as jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers.
      • Keep accessories and makeup modest and professional.

Behavior Code

  • Punctuality:
    • Arrive on time for all sessions and events.
    • Plan to stay for the entire duration of the symposium unless previously excused.
  • Respect and Courtesy:
    • Show respect to all speakers, presenters, and fellow attendees.
    • Silence your mobile devices during sessions.
    • Do not engage in side conversations or activities that might distract others.
  • Engagement:
    • Actively participate in discussions and Q&A sessions.
    • Take notes and be attentive to the presentations.
    • Ask thoughtful questions when prompted.
  • Networking:
    • Take advantage of networking opportunities.
    • Introduce yourself professionally and exchange contact information where appropriate.
    • Be respectful of others' time and space.
  • Professionalism:
    • Represent BYU College of Nursing with integrity and professionalism.
    • Follow the Honor Code at all times, maintaining honesty, respect, and academic integrity.
    • Abstain from any behavior that would reflect poorly on yourself or the college.
  • Gratitude:
    • Express thanks to speakers, organizers, and volunteers.
    • Follow up with any contacts made during the symposium with a courteous email or note.

Additional Guidelines

  • Name Tags: Wear your name tag visibly at all times.
  • Materials: Bring necessary materials such as notepads, pens, and business cards.
  • Meals and Breaks: Be courteous during meals and breaks, following any specific guidelines provided by the symposium organizers.
